Part 1. Getting to Know the English Teacher of the “Eka Chita Prandyan” YEAH foundation

Hi, my name is Intan Putri Rastini. I’m an Indonesian and Balinese woman. In Indonesian, Intan means diamond, Putri means daughter or princess. Rastini is the combination of both my parents’ names. So this way, you can learn a little bit about the Indonesian language just from my name. I hope you’ll remember “Intan” as diamond when you call me. I was born in Surabaya, 11 th of February 1991 as the first daughter. I have a younger brother named Ryandi. Surabaya is the second biggest city in Indonesia, located on the Java Island. Ever since I got married I have been living in Bali, for about a total of 6 years now. I am now a mother of two toddlers, they are Kalki (4 years old) and Kavin (2 years old). My husband works as a farmer, just like most people do here. My family and I live in the Angkah village. I used to be a fulltime housewife at home. Sometimes I would help my husband with his work such as harvesting cacao and coconuts. Then, as my second son grew older, I tried finding a job nearby the village because I think I’ve got a good enough education to share. My mother-in- law had suggested me to apply as an English teacher at the foundation near our house, but because at that time I was busy taking care of my kids, I wasn’t really able to apply yet. And then, a few years later, the foundation moved to the Samsaman village. I saw the sign of the foundation and came to apply as an English teacher in February 2017. Ibu Ketut and Oma Trudy van der Madden were there and welcomed me very warmly. I will tell you more about my story next week!
